CIAO DDS4CCM Shapes example runs with OpenDDS

With the help from OCI and a lot of puzzling at my side we are a step forward in our DDS4CCM implementation. With some local patches we are now able to deploy the CIAO DDS4CCM Shapes example using OpenDDS as underlying DDS vendor.

This is a good step forward in the ability to support multiple DDS vendors by just switching the vendor in the MPC default.feature file. For full support of OpenDDS we still need to perform work in the DDS4CCM implementation, but also OpenDDS has to be extended to support the XML based QoS configuration.

DDS vs DDS4CCM

As a heads up to this forum, I just posted a presentation to the OMG DDS Portal offering a Northrop Grumman perspective on the advantages of DDS4CCM, a.k.a. Component Based DDS (CBDDS), over a straight DDS-based architectural approach. A direct link to the presentation on the OMG site is DDS vs DDS4CCM.pdf.

CIAO DDS4CCM now compiles with OpenDDS

We are pleased to announce that the DDS4CCM implementation now also compiles with OpenDDS. Still some work has to be done in the core
DDS4CCM library, but all examples and tests are compiling without any
changes to the test code itself. The only change in the tests was to add
the OpenDDS way of indicating that an IDL type should be useable as DDS Topic.

This is a showcase of the power of DDS4CCM in terms of vendor
portability. Switching from one DDS vendor to another is now nothing
more than a MPC setting while generating your makefiles.
